Steel makes a shocking discovery on the surface.

Didja Know?

The title of this adventure is borrowed from the 1949 Arthur C. Clarke short story "The Wall of Darkness".

Several of the characters in this story are Americans, but the actors' accents aren't very convincing...they still sound British!

Sapphire

Didja Notice?

In the description of the nuclear war, it is said that India was the first country to fall after Washington was hit. "Washington" presumably refers to Washington D.C.

At 9:20 in the episode, Steel quotes from the book that belongs to Justin, The Other Side of the Sky. We heard in "Wall of Darkness" Part 1 that this is a book of short stories by Arthur C. Clarke. The quote Steel reads from it is from the short story for which this Sapphire & Steel adventure is named "The Wall of Darkness": "Many and strange are the universes that drift like bubbles in the foam upon the River of time."

Jason Knight tells Steel the current date is July 8, 2008.

The book store clerk (Miranda) introduces Sally to Sapphire, saying, "She's English as well," and Sapphire responds, "Sometimes." We know Sapphire and Steel are not from our world as we know it, so she's not a Brit, though she's always seemed to be from her accent and the usual haunting grounds of her and Steel's assignments. Her qualified answer here seems to suggest that she can assume other nationalities when required.
