Headmaster Leslie remarks that Allan was previously in
charge of just the phones, but now has charge of IT in the
school despite not having "a whisker of an O-Level".
"O-Level" stands for Ordinary Level, a General Certificate
of Education in the UK, though it was replaced with the GCSE
(General Certificate of Secondary Education) in 1988. I
suppose Allan is old enough that he would have fallen under
the O-Level certification if he had received a general
education.
