The music box tune heard at the beginning of the episode is Brahms' Lullaby, written by Johannes Brahms in 1868. Sapphire also identifies it in "Daisy Chain" Part 2.

The television at the Sowersby home plays an advertisement for Furniture World. There are a number of real world businesses by that name around the globe, including in England.

As far as I can tell, the song Jennifer listens to in this episode is an original song for the story, not a previously published recording. In "Daisy Chain" Part 4, Jennifer says the song is called "Get Out of My Head".

Jennifer teases her brother about the time he got stuck "in there" thinking he could get to Narnia. The "in there" Jennifer speaks of must be a wardrobe, a reference to The Chronicles of Narnia series of children's books by British author C.S. Lewis published 1950-1956. In the books, a wardrobe in the real world is a portal to the magical land of Narnia.

The TV drama Gabrielle watches (featuring the characters of Vanessa, Dominic, and Christina) is revealed to be Temple Place in "Daisy Chain" Part 4. Temple Place appears to be a fictitious show.

Twin Peaks note: When the Sowersby family wonders why Sapphire and Steel don't have cell phones, Sapphire covers with "Mr. Steel doesn't like anything technological. He doesn't trust it. He thinks electricity has a mind of its own." In Twin Peaks, it seems that the denizens of the Black Lodge can travel through electricity when on Earth.
